I was out on my fishing partner Dennis’ boat today, we got to Fire Island Inlet right at first light and found large schools of bunker across the entire inlet. We loaded up a bunch in the livewell and worked over the schools for a short while before heading outside to try and find some fish on bunker schools in the ocean
After searching around for an hour or so with no signs of life east or west of the inlet we headed back inside for the last of the incoming tide and again had bunker all over the place.
On our second drift I landed a striped bass that went 23lbs on the boga scale before we released it. Thinking it was going to happen but it did not turn out that way. That single fish was to be it for the rest of the day. As the tide turned to outgoing, the bait schools dispersed and we bagged it for the day a short while later
