Pete Dahill Striped Bass Contest Results
By
I fished this striped bass contest for the first time this past Saturday (10/23) and I have to say that I am sorry to have missed it in previous years but will not make that mistake again. The contest is run out of the Viking Inn in Islip which for years has been a THE place to be for the best dart players in the area. Well, they can add Contest hosts to that now in my humble opinion
Fishing started at sunrise and contestants were greeted with more of the howling wind that has become all too familiar this season. This made for tough conditions as the water was browned up quite a bit and positioning the boat was a chore at best. Never the less, there were fish caught. The first place fish was a beautiful 36lb cow, second place was nailed down by a fishing buddy of mine, Bob Highland (pictured here) who took a fish of 26.25 lbs and the final spot went to a 23 lb bass.
Congratulations to the winners for pulling some decent fish in tough conditions.
I had one take the entire day, a fish in the upper 20lb class that was dropped boatside after getting a good look at her. Tough luck!!!
Following the weigh-in was an awesome BBQ. VERY NICE and well appreciated after a long day on the bay. Plenty of door prizes were donated by several local businesses but two tackle shops really took donating to the next level. Frank at Chasing Tails Bait and Tackle in Oakdale, NY and Greg over at Burnetts Tackle in Bay Shore made sure there was all sorts of equipment prizes to be raffled off. I deal with both these shops on a regular basis and they are both great shops.
This contest will surely be on my calendar for next year.
Tight Lines.........
